February 13, 2019 Office of Agricultural Affairs joined the Royal Thai Armed Forces Day reception at the Sala Thai Hall, Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra.

Visit to Sydney Institute of Marine Science SIMS

February 6, 2019 Office of Agricultural Affairs paid a visit to Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) located on Chowder Bay in Sydney Harbour. SIMS is the principle marine research facility in NSW.

Visiting 6 Thai Young Smart Farmers in Darwin, Northern Territory

7 – 9 November 2018 Office of Agricultural Affairs accompanied by an officer from Department of Agriculture and Water Resources paid a visit to Darwin, Northern Territory to meet with 6 young smart farmers from Thailand. The farmers had been selected from each region in Thailand for On-the-Job Training in Australia for a period of 3 months starting from late September 2018. The training is one of the various activities under The Pilot Cooperation on Thai Young Smart Farmer Development conducted by Department of Agriculture Extension. The farmers are scheduled to return to Thailand in late December 2018.

The 16th Thai Food and Cultural Festival 2018, Canberra

23 September 2018, Office of Agricultural Affairs (OAA) participated in the 16th Thai Food and Cultural Festival 2018, one of the most anticipating events organized in Canberra. The event was held at the Royal Thai Embassy annually to promote Thai culture, food and hospitality. This year OAA showcased a wide variety of niche market rice such as RD 43 Rice (Medium to Low GI Rice), Riceberry Rice, Hom Mali Nil Surin Rice, Tubtim Chumpae Rice and Hom Mali Nil Surin Retort Rice (Ready-to-Eat). Health conscious attendees enjoyed samples of cooked Thai aromati rice and expressed their interest to purchase these speciality rices in the market. New organic commodities such as Hed-Krang (splitgill mushroom) products and organic honey from Marketing Organization for Farmers were also introduced. More than 7,000 people were estimated to attend this year festival.

Fine Food Australia 2018, Melbourne, Victoria

10 – 13 September 2018, Office of Agricultural Affairs (OAA) participated in Fine Food 2018 which is the largest Food and Hospitality Trade Fair in Australia. This year the annual event was held at Melbourne Convention Centre in Melbourne, Victoria. It was the forum for food and services suppliers and importers to network and pursue international trade. There were 1,000 exhibitors from Australia and over 60 countries with more than 26,000 attendees. OAA showcased in the Thai Pavilion a wide variety of niche market rice such as Organic Rice, RD 43 Rice (Medium to Low GI Rice), Riceberry Rice, Hom Mali Nil Surin Rice, Tubtim Chumpae Rice and Hom Mali Nil Surin Retort Rice (Ready-to-Eat).

The 2nd Meeting of the Fiji – Thailand Joint Agricultural Working Group , Suva, Republic of Fiji

8 September 2018 Office of Agricultural Affairs (OAA) attended the 2nd Meeting of the Fiji – Thailand Joint Agricultural Working Group at Holiday Inn Suva, Suva, Republic of Fiji. The Thai delegation was led by Mr. Lertviroj Kowattana, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives while the Fijian delegation was led by Mr. David Kolitagane, Permanent Secretary for Agriculture, Minister of Agriculture. Progress of the technical cooperation derived from the 1st meeting was reported such as the Projects on Coconut Field Gene Bank Management and Utilization of Coconut Varieties for Virgin Coconut Oil Production, Veterinary Services and Contract Farming Specialist/Consultant Request. Also participating were Thai officials from the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Royal Department of Irrigation, Department of Cooperatives Promotion, Department of Land Development, Department of Livestock Development and Department of Agriculture.

The 18th Meeting of the Australia – Thailand Joint Working Group on Agriculture, Melbourne, Victoria

6 September 2018 Office of Agricultural Affairs (OAA) attended The 18th Meeting of the Australia – Thailand Joint Working Group on Agriculture t Rendezvous Hotel, Melbourne, Victoria. The meeting was aimed at exchanging information on country’s agricultural policies and progress of ongoing technical assistance as well as future collaboration. The Thai delegation was led by Mr. Lertviroj Kowattana, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives while Mrs. Louis van Meaurs, First Assistant Secretary, Trade and Market Access Division was the Head of Australian Delegation. Thai participants includes representative officials from Office of the Permanent Secretary, Royal Irrigation Department, Department of Fisheries, Department of Livestock Development, Department of Land Development, Department of Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Land Reform Office, Office of Agricultural Economics and National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards..

The 14th Thai – Australia SPS Expert Group Meeting, Melbourne, Victoria

4 – 5 September 2018, Office of Agricultural Affairs (OAA) attended the 14th Thai – Australia Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Expert Group Meeting at Rendezvous Hotel, Melbourne, Victoria. The meeting objectives were to discuss market access for agriculture and food products under the obligations of Thailand- Australia Free Trade Agreement or TAFTA). A joint announcement was made during the meeting on a new irradiation pathway for horticultural exports. Thai mangoes gained market access to Australian while Queensland persimmons are permitted for export to Thailand. Dr. Surmsuk Salakpetch, Secretary General of National Bureau of Agricultural Commodities and Food Standards (ACFS) was the Head of Thai Delegation while Mrs. Louis van Meaurs, First Assistant Secretary, Trade and Market Access Division was the Head of Australian Delegation. As the host country for the meeting, Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) organized a study visit for Thai participants from ACFS, Department of Livestock Development, Department of Agriculture and OAA to various sites which were cheese manufacturer (That’s Amore Cheese), Vineyard in Yarra Valley and Wandin Valley Farms and packing house close to Melbourne.
