Irradiation Facility Audit by Department of Agriculture, Narangba, Queensland
1 – 2 November 2017 Office of Agricultural Affairs participated in the irradiation facility audit at Steritech performed by officers from Department of Agriculture (DOA) and Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (Public Organization). The audit was also attended by officers from Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR). Steritech was first established 15 years ago and is located in Narangba, a city near Brisbane, Queensland. The audit constitutes a part of DOA’s import permission for irradiated persimmons from Australia into Thailand. If the audit is found in compliance with DOA’s requirements, Australia will be approved for export irradiated persimmons to Thailand in the next season which will begin early 2018.

15th Thai Food and Cultural Festival, Canberra
17 September 2560 Office of Agricultural Affairs, Canberra in association with Rice Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives participated in the 15th Thai Food and Cultural Festival, organized by and held at Royal Thai Embassy in Canberra. A wide variety of newly bred rice species and rice products were exhibited at the event. Samples of freshly cooked rice and innovative rice products were offered to the onlookers to taste. There was also a cooking demonstration by talented chefs from Chat Thai Restaurant from Sydney, which attracted huge interest of the audience.
Thailand – Australia SPS Expert Group and JWG Meetings, Chiangmai
13-15 September 2017 Office of Agricultural Affairs, Canberra participated in the The 13th Meeting of the Expert Group on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures and Food Standards and The 17th Meeting of the Thailand – Australia Joint Working Group on Agriculture hosted by Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of Thailand at Sirapanna Villa Resort and Spa, Chiangmai. The Australian delegation from Department of Agriculture and Water Resources joined the excursion to visit to the Royal Project Foundation and Royal Project Inthanon in Chiangmai.
Fine Food Australia 2017, Sydney
11 – 14 September 2017 Office of Agricultural Affairs, Canberra in association with Rice Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, showcased a wide variety of Thai rice and rice products in Fine Food Australia 2017 held at International Convention Centre in Sydney. It was aimed at promoting positive images of Thai rice and rice products and reinforcing their high quality standard and food safety. Increasing trade opportunities and creating demand for Thai rice and rice products in Australia were also anticipated.
Visit to Papua New Guinea
6 – 9 September 2017 Office of Agricultural Affairs, Canberra joined the Thai delegation led by H.E. Jirachai Pankrasin, Thai Ambassador to Australia, to visit Papua New Guinea (PNG) with an aim to exploring trade and investment opportunities. The program was coordinated by Royal Thai Consulate General, Port Moresby. The delegate from Thai Department of Fisheries, Dr. Chamnarn Pongsri, Deputy Director-General, and Minister Counsellor (Agriculture) had a meeting with National Fisheries Authority (NFA) to discuss the proposed draft MOU on Fisheries between Thailand and PNG. The MOU will be finalized and expected to be signed by the end of 2017.
Meeting with importers and exporters in Brisbane, Queensland
24 – 25 August 2017 Office of Agricultural Affairs, Canberra’s visit to Brisbane, Queensland was cordially organized by Mr. Andrew Park, Honorary Consul, Royal Thai Consulate Brisbane. The Minister Counsellor (Agriculture) had a meeting with food and fresh produces importers, Thai restaurant owner and also paid a visit to Brisbane Wholesale Fresh Produce Markets and vegetable farms which their produces were exported to Thailand.
Promotion of Thai Food in Auckland and Wellington, New Zealand
20 – 21 August 2017 Office of Agricultural Affairs, Canberra participated in the promotion of Thai food and commodities in New Zealand, organized by Royal Thai Embassy, Wellington in association with Thai Society Charitable Trust of New Zealand. The objectives were to promote Thai food among New Zealand consumers particularly Thai dishes made from cooked duck meat. The events were held at Nickie’s Thai Restaurant in Auckland and Royal Thai Embassy in Wellington.
